Saturdays Are Fun: Spotlight on scrapper2009

Happy Saturday friends! I thought it would be fun today to focus our spotlight on one of the art journalers from the Art Journal Caravan 2011 Gallery. I picked Pam (scrapper2009) because of her style to inject unexpected elements into her pages, and to merge many items seamless-y (if that is a word) together. I hope you enjoy this spotlight and find inspiration today! (All images posted with permission.)

It's Me by scrapper2009

First, I thought it would be appropriate to start off with Pam’s (scrapper2009) Self-Portrait page for the Adventure Quest! {AUGUST 2011} Self-Portraits [Community Book Project]. It’s a magical page, with fabulous layering and blending. Take a look at Pam’s description below.

Pam: This one had to be the most challenging yet…but it’s done and it is me, in a very general perspective. I think it’s acceptable as a signature page because it’s rather quirky (like me), playful (like me), and colorful (also like me). The detached head that is still magically alive is also like me: I often spend lots of time with my head in the clouds detached from planet earth. Now, I must add, that this is the “me” that most of the world does not see, just my buds. Everyone else gets a subdued version of these qualities along with my very serious, introspective, and conscientious side that likely plays some part in mediating a balance. And I mean NO ONE sees my bozo hair (which is really brown but I made it red for this page as it looked more interesting) except friends.

As always, thanx so very much for taking a peek at my page

Several yummy kits were used: Tangie Art Dolls; Tumblefish Studios Odd Magic, Journal Words; BRimmer Artdoll Therapy, FCD Steampunk, Mermaids, Ode to a Muse, Inner Voice; A Rockwell Overlays; Crowabout Studios Borders

Next, terror dive: A brilliantly conceived page! Love the blending, and the fun quirky things like the panic button and the little skeleton. The font work for the journaling works very well too.

Itinerary #43 {Verb: Terrify}

Pam: When I saw the itinerary, it did not take much thinking to recall what terrified me most in the past: heights! OMG, it was panic city there for a while. I can joke about it now and I still prefer terra firma, but the fear is thankfully gone. Now, when I’m cleaning the gutters, it’s not a fear of the height but a fear of falling and breaking a hip or something that makes me think twice.

As always, thanks for taking a peek

Itinerary #45 {Verb: Nest}: This page looks like ART to me. I love it because the style is so different from my own yet I would love to try this. Gorgeous!

ParadEYES by scrapper2009

Itinerary #45 {Verb: Nest}

Pam: Of course the first thing that came to mind with the word nest was a bird. Well, for me, not just any bird but one with a Pair o’ Eyes aka Bird of ParadEYES. It’s somewhere at this point that I find I must just be entertaining myself with the play on words because it cetainly is not straightforward, and the more works it takes to play, the less it lends itself to pure enjoyment. Be that as it may, I liked the bird and put her to paper and magnolia tree in bloom in hopes that someone else might find her cute as well.  Which reminds me of something and old friend once wrote on a bar napkin:

A bell is no bell ’til you ring it,
A song is no song ’til you sing it,
And love in your heart
Wasn’t put there to stay -
Love isn’t love
‘Til you give it away.
~Oscar Hammerstein, Sound of Music

This Portal page is fabulous. I love the font work, and the expert positioning of elements. All around great design and wonderful art journaling. If you read Pam’s description, it hits home with our recent Art Journaling 101 article where one person’s trash is another’s treasure. This is treasure! the other side by scrapper2009

Pam: This portal page was from an initial inspiration when reading the itinerary for May. I’ve since seen so many more worthy pieces of art in this gallery that I almost scrapped this one. The “nays” won. I guess this represents how I regularly, at some level, strive to or at least think about, breaking through to a more positive, free, giving state. It reads:
I found an island in your arms,
A country in your eyes
Arms that chain
Eyes that lie
Break on through to the other side

As always, thanx for taking a look

Itinerary #45 {Verb: Nest}: Wow! There is so much going on in this page, I just love it. The owl, the dog, the nest, the heel, the flowers, etc. Fabulous color.

City Girl by scrapper2009

Itinerary #45 {Verb: Nest}

Pam: I think of a nest as “home” where I live, where I raised my offspring, where I walk my dogs, where I shop, where I go to church, and that would be the city. Though the sticks are becoming more attractive as I move on in years, I’ll always be a city girl at heart.

Adventure Quest! {May 2011} Portals & Transformation: Pam makes it looks so easy to make these kind of vignettes with various elements that don’t go together yet she fits them in seamlessly.  Don’t you love the highway zooming past King Kong?

Adventure Quest! {May 2011} Portals & Transformation

Pam - It reads: “After a hundred years of being stuck in this rabbit hole, it’s time to stare down the beast and get outa this place, if it’s the last thing I ever do…”

as always, thanx for taking a peek You’ve all been so kind…

Do Not Crush: Wow, again! A mix of illustration elements with realistic-looking elements for a wonderful and expressive art journal page. This is a topic we all can relate to, I’m sure of. I love Pam’s inspiration song, as she includes the lyrics below.

Do Not Crush by scrapper2009

Pam: No special reason, itinerary or adventure quest that inspired this one. I guess it was all the luscious kits and other goodies that met one of my muses along the road a couple nights ago Tiny, fragile creatures revive themselves near me, heck I may have even had a hand in turning on the spigot…But as Sting once sang: (yes, some sort of music is always somewhere on my mind—and there goes Willy)

And if I built this fortress around your heart
Encircled you in trenches and barbed wire
Then let me build a bridge
For I cannot fill the chasm
And let me set the battlements on fire

Itinerary #11 {Verb: Test}: This, to me, is genius! I love how she created her art doll with the T.V. as the body, helping to give the message of the page. There is another layer of depth with the broken egg-shell at the girl’s feet.

Itinerary #11 {Verb: Test}

Pam: When preparing the credits for my completed project, I realized that the “test” I used is the noun form And not the verb. Oh well!

Itinerary # 10 Simply Started: I Jumped…: This is a beautiful scene, and I’m always jealous of pages like this as I have such trouble with them. Pure fantasy, and I love it!

Jumpin' Jiminy Bimini by scrapper2009

Itinerary # 10 Simply Started: I Jumped…

Pam – Reads: Upon spotting the Bimini Road, I jumped feet first with raw excitement into the crystal sea. It would have been a hard landing but for my golden wings!

Thanx to all for looking

Adventure Quest! {October 2011} Soundtrack of My Life!: You can tell, along with her other pages, that Pam just has a lot of fun making her pages. Although this page is about fear, this page features creatures that are  so creepy they’re cute, or maybe it’s just me? LOL. At least, Pam had fun being in the Halloween spirit in October.

fear by scrapper2009

Adventure Quest! {October 2011} Soundtrack of My Life!

Pam: I cannot get out of the Halloween spirit, lol, so my song for week #3 is a bit creepy and anxiety provoking. I was not a Clash fan but the song was a hit single in 1981: Should I Stay or Should I Go? It was Punk Rock and the tense energy does fit the anxiety of the question; and the question had been a familiar one in the past. Here, she can stay amidst the fire and menacing creatures, or venture forward to a relative unknown where a tiger threatens her passage and a tornado sweeps the landscape, but beyond there may be possibilites…

Some of the lyrics:

Darling you got to let me know
Should I stay or should I go?
If you say that you are mine
I’ll be here ’til the end of time
So you got to let me know
Should I stay or should I go?

One day is fine, next day is black
So if you want me off your back
Well come on and let me know
Should I stay or should I go?

Should I stay or should I go now?
Should I stay or should I go now?
If I go there will be trouble
An’ if I stay it will be double
So come on and let me know!

Should I stay or should I go?
