My Vision of Health Prompt #4

Social Media Team

by Julie Ann Shahin, Social Media Team

Who is in your tribe? I’m talking about the slang version of the word here: “Generally speaking, any group of people with a common intentity, traits or interests. A person may feel at home in many tribes, and large/general tribes often contain sub-tribes who feel apart from each other.” (Urban Dictionary) Often these people feel like family to you.

A tribe is important to have because no man is an island. We all need one another, if not to laugh and enjoy one another’s company and blow off stress, then to lean on one another’s shoulders every now and then. There are different networks in one’s life, such a professional networks that help your career, we of course have our family networks, and there are service networks such as health care professionals or home remodeling professionals. There are also people we’ve met in high school, in our neighborhood, in clubs, and friends of friends. I’m  not talking about these support networks. I’m talking about our closest friends or people we trust the most.

According to this article, the three big reasons we form tribes include:

  1. Connectedness or Belongingness
  2. Communication
  3. Change

This is meant to represent that I am, by nature, a homebody. Left to my own devices I’d hardly ever socialize. My friends though get me out of the house and going to parties and events and whatnot. I always have a great time when I go, but without their push I wouldn’t do it. They’re good for me!

Kits used from Tangie: Flora Finery, Thinking of Thee, Ethereal & Splatter graffiti Love. Also I used a chair from Lorie Davision’s Falling Leaves, Autumn Tea (Though you can hardly see it!)

I’ve never been much into cooking until the past year or two so now that I’m addicted to Pinterest, I’ve started collecting healthy recipes from my friends on Pinterest. I deliberately do not follow dessert boards or party food boards, etc. It’s been really inspiring. If it weren’t for these friends, I wouldn’t have made so many changes to my diet such as drinking lemon water daily which has many health benefits, or how to cut out so much sugar and calories in recipes!
