Art Journaling 102: Spotlight on Julie Prichard’s Blog!

Social Media Team

This week we have a new exciting blog to feature: Julie Prichard!

About Julie Prichard via her Facebook Page: “I was born and raised in San Diego, a city that plays an important roll in the intriguing multicultural and multifaceted larger art colony called Southern California.

While other kids were forced to sit idly as their mothers systematically searched hordes of wallpaper samples in hellishly large books my mom towed me to art stores to explore a myriad of wondrous art supplies. But it wasn’t until high school that my creative urge was truly awakened by an inspiring photography teacher. Receiving a few local awards prompted me to seek a profession that was equally creative and fulfilling. I obtained a degree from the Gemology Institute of America that not only included the grading of gemstones but gave me an appreciation of the natural beauty of gems and their artful transformation into pieces of jewelry.

My professional time as a gemologist came to an end with the birth of my daughter, an event that saw the beginning of my career as an artist.

I have one non-negotiable prerequisite and that is the ongoing examination of my own motives in the creative process yielding art that is both original and personal.

My daughter and I? Well, we now go exploring the isles of artist supplies together as I once did many years ago with my mom.”

We Love

We love this page by Julie Pritchard at her blog post Whirldwind.Summer.

Be Inspired:

Create an art journal page inspired by the title Yesterday/Today as seen on Julie’s page above. Bonus: Relate it to the theme of the month (i.e. My Vision for 2012 – February: Knowledge).

Upload the page to your blog, photobucket.com, or favorite gallery and link it to this blog post so we can give you lots of praise!

Inspiration from the Studio Tangie Creative Team: Yesterday/Today

Heather: I used to be so sure of everything in my teens and early 20s, and now the thing I’m most certain of is that I really don’t know much at all. I like it better this way. I love the Hemingway quote, “How little we know of what there is to know.”

Journaling: Time is a relative concept. Each person puts in the individual maintenance.
For me “yesterday” is my work and my house. “Today” is photoshop, digiscrap, new friends, forums, English language, Internet, my blog, camera, photographing… The establishment of my border between “yesterday” and “today” has occurred in 2006-2007…

Poem by Emily Dickinson:

Yesterday is History,
‘Tis so far away
Yesterday is Poetry
‘Tis Philosophy

Yesterday is mystery
Where it is Today
While we shrewdly speculate
Flutter both away

I found this poem by Emily Dickinson that deals with the subject of Yesterday and Today. I believe the last two lines “While we shrewdly speculate/Flutter both away” is the lesson to be learnt that life is meant to be lived in the moment, also known as “Carpe Diem!”  I translated this into my page with the colors and word art that I selected. This is an all digi page that I wanted to make it look as if it were hybrid.
