“I Don’t Know What To Journal” Myth-Buster Prompt #13!

Welcome to our I Don’t Have Anything to Journal About” Myth-Buster Prompt #13 by Tangie!

Prompt: If you could have one superpower, which would it be?

Journal your thoughts and upload your page to your blog or favorite gallery. Link it up in the comments of this blog post.

by Julie Ann Shahin, Studio Tangie Social Media Team

Telepathy, telekinesis, enhanced intelligence, super strength, super speed, flight, teleportation, invisibility, shape-shifting – these are just a few of the most commonly imagined superpowers.   Which one appeals to you most? Why? Or do you long for a different type of power?

Our art journalers below chose some unique powers.

  • Rain would have the loving gift of healing power.
  • Heather dreams of house-keeping superpowers.
  • Your every thought would be known by Deb.
  • And I would be able to befriend anyone with my hypnotic charm as the strongest of my powers of persuasion.

Journaling reads as follows……..
There are numerous
SUPERPOWERS
that I would love
to draw upon in
my day to day
LIFE
Right now having the ABILITY TO READ OTHERS MINDS would be most HELPFUL
Certainly not in a prying or devious way, but in a manner which would
ALLOW FOR FURTHER
UNDERSTANDING
It is so hard for some to SHARE OR EXPRESS their inner thoughts and feelings WHEN TIMES ARE TOUGH
OR COMPLICATED
and I can’t help but thinking
“If only I could read your mind love…..”

Here are simple instructions for using Photo Masks in PSE, from my former tutorial blog, (now closed.)

Step 1. Open your photo (or in art journaling you may use paper or glitter instead of a photo) in PSE.
Step 2. Select the photo mask you wish to use, and open it in PSE.
Step 3. Drag the photo onto the photo mask so that it is the layer above the photo mask.
Step 4. Select ctrl+g to clip it together.
Step 5. To use it in a layout, select Layer–> Merge Visible.
Step 6. Drag the photo onto your layout.

About October’s Prompt : Pleasure or Pain?

I’m not talking about 50 Shades of Grey here. I’m talking about the fact that sometimes it kind of boils down to whether you are motivated by pleasure or pain, doesn’t it? Are you excited about the sunny weather, or depressed and cranky about the cold rain?

When you are motivated by pleasure, such as allowing yourself to be cheered up by the sunny weather, you go about your day with a smile and joyful attitude that ends up being contagious to everyone you meet.  Thus, your cheerfulness multiplies.

When you are motivated by pain, such as allowing yourself to be depressed and cranky about the cold rain or change in seasons, you focus on how awful the day compared to other days before it. Perhaps you feel aches and pains more readily, or they become intensified, because your mood is lowered. (Not counting the rain-induced migraines that people, such as myself, often get that can’t be helped due to the change in pressure in the atmosphere.)

Instead of finding motivation in pleasure or pain, successful people find motivation from their goal and values. This allows them to focus day in and day out, despite whatever they feel – pleasure or pain. They do not allow for such distractions to deter them from their plan to achieve what they have their heart set on.

We are human, after all, and we might have the occasional setback. For instance, I surprised myself when my answer to this month’s prompt was that my motivation was pain. That very morning, I was forced out of bed earlier than I usually get up by actual pain in my lower back and hip. I just couldn’t stand it any longer laying in bed. So I honestly created my art journal page answering that I am motivated at this time by pain.

I’m sure many people with chronic pain can relate. If  you feel you want to take on the prompt from this angle, feel free to do so.

Must Read:

Recognition or Money?

Another angle is to consider is what motivates you: Fame or Gain? aka Recognition or Money?

According to brad at CertifiedKnowledge.org,the three best motivating factors for individuals are:

  • Autonomy – are you in charge of your destiny?
  • Mastery – how can you get better at a skill?
  • Purpose – what does your work create?

Did you notice that money is not listed?”

Would you rather be applauded or would you rather be compensated? These days, in this economy, that’s a tough question. Compensation would seem the common sense answer, yet recognition for a job well-done could lead to  more respect, more trust, perhaps a promotion that comes with a pay-raise.

I can say at this time in my life, autonomy comes before money. Being in charge of my own destiny is important, the ability to be self-directed instead of being told what to do. I like having flexibility in my schedule, and being able to control it myself. I really like having a lot of me time. I suppose this all falls into the “Fun and Excitement” category.

You really MUST watch this AMAZING video “Drive” about what motivates us. I am unable to embed it into wordpress so just click on the link to pinterest and then click through again to the video.

October Prompt : My Vision for 2012: Motivation -Studio Tangie

Creative Team Inspiration

Rain

What motivates me? Honoring relationships by being on time, whether it is cooking gluten-free meals for friends/patients, driving to appts., or simply being present when our 15 yr. old doggie wakes and wants to go out or find the water bowl. Timelines, deadlines, the motivation behind getting up earlier to tend the garden or bake, before it’s hot and plants are water stressed, get photos taken, compress and zip, sent to German company for brochure, meet the deadline, but first pick the ripe, juicy raspberries, take the call from my stepdaughter and listen with all my being between the lines, finish the 80th birthday photobook gift and send it off, make the sheep cheese…the Chinese puzzle of time and life, motivated by love, by the season, by keeping appointments with myself for art, and mandolin, and Qi Gong practice, while still getting the basil harvested and the pesto made. Living the renaissance life of integration, knowing it requires the courage to say no, say yes, say not today because I’m committed to holding Gary’s hand, watching the change of light over the mountains, the hummingbirds at the feeders, the bees, and the wet grass against my bare feet. What motivates me? Love.
Drink it in, wallow in it, eat the glory, rest in the arms of God. Love. Everywhere in the little tasks and details. Everywhere.

Heather aka sparklyduck75

Without even realizing it, I’m motivated lately by progress. New house, new cat, new church, new friends, new opportunities for service, new classes, new boundaries on relationships. I want our lives to be more meaningful, doing more of what we were created to do instead of watching the world go by or being choked by other people’s toxins. The trick is to keep the new activity balanced with the introverted, mellow pace the three of us crave. I hadn’t realized how much change we’re in the midst of, till I sat down with this layout, but now I’m sort of amazed. It’s not always comfortable–in fact, some of it is way out of my comfort zone–but it’s all positive and I’m excited about where we’re headed together.

Keep moving forward: even the smallest step is closer than yesterday.

DíA De Los Muertos {Cuatro}

Wikipedia – “The Day of the Dead (El Día de los Muertos or All Souls’ Day) is a holiday celebrated in Mexico to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. Celebrated on November 2nd, traditions include building private altars honoring the deceased, using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed, and visiting graves with these as gifts.” It might sound a little morbid, if you aren’t familiar with the holiday, but it’s a major cause of celebration in the Southwest.
