I’m Teaching 3 Photoshop Classes at Art Unraveled!
I’m so excited that I will be teaching at the 10th anniversary of Art Unraveled in Phoenix, this is an amazing retreat (I went for the first time last year and LOVED it)!
Photoshop for Mixed-Media Beginner
- Do you want to learn to use Photoshop but don’t have a clue where to start? This basics class is for you! We will be starting from the ground up–building a solid foundation for you to get started in digital collage and mixed-media projects. We will be covering the Photoshop interface, personal workspace, learning the best tools for basic Photoshop projects, layering and more. We will also cover the basics of images such as file types, image resolution, zip and archived folders, how to download images you purchase and image capture methods such as scanners and digital cameras. We will also discuss in depth, the unlimited possibility that Photoshop has for mixed-media applications, it’s not just for processing or “touching up” photos. You have a powerful tool at your finger tips!
- CD/ DVD with tutorials, worksheets and live links to important information.
- All images and samples used in tutorials so you can practice exactly what I show you in class.
- Access to a password protected site with video tutorials exclusively for attendees of this workshop.
- Printed full color handout to take notes on in class.
- PLUS ! $15+ worth of digital image supplies from my Studio Store (images on the CD’s are different with each class you take).You may bring a laptop (with Photoshop) with you so you can follow along in class, but this is OPTIONAL. I find that the students that just watch me as we cover the material are much more successful in the long run than the students trying to keep up on the laptop in class (you miss so much!). You really do have everything you need in my extensive handouts to practice in the comfort of your own home and at your own pace.If you do not currently have Photoshop you can download a free 30 day trial from the Adobe Photoshop website. Please note that I will share with you in class how to order discounted copies of the software through academic superstores if you are, or have a student in your home.
Kit Fee of $15 payable at class time to Instructor includes the following:
Photoshop for Mixed-Media Intermediate
Do you have an idea what Photoshop can do for you, but not sure how to apply it to your mixed-media projects or would you like to become a better digital artist? You’ve come to the right place! We will be learning composition and how to create digital collages using some of Photoshop’s most amazing (and often overlooked) features. We will thoroughly cover layers and how to use them to their fullest potential, groups, layer masks, clipping masks, cloning, duplicating documents, basic adjustment layers, using brushes, basic shadowing, basic typography and more. You will watch me create a digital collage in class from scratch and have all the same images in your take home materials to build the same one over and over again until you have mastered the skills to create your own! My Photoshop classes are unique because they are geared towards the mixed-media artist instead of the photographer.
Kit Fee of $15 payable to Instructor at class time includes the following:
Photoshop for Mixed-Media Advanced
- This is for people who KNOW what Photoshop has to offer the mixed-media artist but want to take their skills to the next level! We will be covering the really marvelous techniques in this class! Building a complex collage from scratch, I will teach you how to use the following Photoshop features; custom shadows, warp and puppet tools, how to make your OWN layer effects and brushes (and save them for later use), advanced blending modes, advanced typography and “art journal style” writing, lighting effects, using .png overlays, basic/intermediate extractions, tips & tricks like “digital gesso” and so much more. As the final class in the series, we will also be looking at finished mixed-media art projects that incorporate digital art. My Photoshop classes are unique because they are geared towards the mixed-media artist instead of the photographer.

Art Journal Caravan {Expedition 2012}
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a cartographer in the early exploration of our earth? The amazing thrill of exhilaration knowing you are recording a place no human had ever set foot before? I have thought about it so many times, in fact I have a deep seeded fascination of maps. Perhaps every human does at their core? Somehow we need to know where we are and what is around us, yet the call of the wild beckons us to explore. What is just over this hill, or that road we’ve never yet driven? This year I invite you to join with me on a new kind of expedition. Let’s explore art journaling as Cartographers Extraordinaire! Using our imagination and our ever growing artistic skills, we’ll set out to navigate, document, and explore our amazing journey in 2012 !
