VIP Interviews

Meet the lucky VIP pass holders! These passes only go on sale 4 times a year!

VIP-Interview with Carolyn

You may have seen her work at Scrapbook Graphics under the screen name rajns, today you will meet her as Carolyn one of the ladies on the VIP tour of Tangie’s team! These ladies are taken behind the scenes to the craziness and banter of the Creative Team forum and see the releases before they hit the store.  It is an exciting time, and as we get to know and love them, you should get a glimpse of their lives also.

First off, the ladies are given a whole bunch of questions and they can answer as many as they want, or just a few to help us learn about them. Here are a few of the questions that Carolyn answered, and she said she did this on small amounts of sleep (must be that addicting art journaling habit keeping her awake), so all incoherent answers are from her and I did not change them! hee hee

1. Do you have any animals? What kind?
Our shih tzu  lhasa apso mix, Chewie (Chewbacca Voldemort), who has taught me lots about life!    He turned out to be a self-fulfilling prophecy and he chewed on everything!  Next dog we are naming Obi.  Not short for Obi Wan Kenobi, but obedient!
2. When you are scrapping, what are the sounds around you?
Ipod tunes or terrible tv shows.  The shows I enjoy usually don’t win awards and often only last one season.  I love the noise of tv shows, especially if I have already seen them because I don’t really watch them, I listen.  They are just background noise.  For some reason I love the sounds of certain voices.
3. Do you dance like crazy, when no one is looking?
Yes, at it looks like I am having a seizure while riding a merry-go-round.  Remember Elaine’s dancing episode on Seinfeld?
4. What would subject or material would you like to see in a kit from Tangie?
Architectural!  I love old buildings, castles, ancient ruins.
5. What do you sing in the shower, if you do sing (we know you do!)?
I only sing 1-2 lines of a song and mumble the rest because I am terrible at remembering lyrics -except for one song, “One Tin Soldier”.  Why that one? Learned it at camp and it hasn’t ever left me…
6. Do you buy cookies or things from kids that knock on your door?
Of course!  I love that the Boy Scouts now have the option to buy a thing of popcorn to be sent to a soldier serving over seas.  I get to help the Boy Scouts, a soldier, and I don’t have to sweat the calories!
7. Where is your dream vacation?
Any place with really old rocks in the shape of something(that’s how my family describes the vacations I’ve dragged them on….) I love ancient history.  The first time I saw ancient Greek ruins I lost my breath.  The part that is really my dream is the instant travel part!  I do not do well with the transatlantic flights and I am a bit of a princess to travel with so to be able to see Nero’s Golden House in the afternoon and be in my own bed at night is my dream!
8. Can we get a snap shot of at where you create?
My happy place! See below.

9. If given a complete freedom to start afresh, what profession would you choose and why?

I can’t answer that one yet but give me time.  I just left my job to do just that!

My family tried to help me come up with fun facts for the ATC – here the ones that didn’t make it to the final ATC
I own the MacGuyver box set and I actually watch it.
My husband and I once renewed our vows with an Elvis impersonator in Las Vegas.
I tried to get my Beatles obsessed daughter to skip school for a DAY to fly to Arizona to see Paul McCartney.  She said no – she didn’t want to miss school.

Thanks!
Carolyn
Oh I am in love with that studio! I mean I told Carolyn, I was in jaw dropping awe of it! I create out of a milk crate at this moment, and her studio is a joy to see! I have  included one of Carolyn (aka rajns) pages, so you can see her work on the Art Journal Caravan:
Her chosen word Trust, and I trust you have enjoyed this little interview and come back next Sunday to meet another of the lovely VIPs!

VIP-Interview with Irene

Today we get to visit with one of the VIP guest on the Tangie Baxter team.  The VIPs are here for a few months and get to play and laugh and make things with Tangie’s fun and exciting designs.  Todays, VIP guest is Scrappie Irene.
What continent do you live on?
I live in the Netherlands, Europe. But I would love to live in Italy.
Do you have any animals? What kind?
We don’t have animals, but our neighbor’s cat is visiting us everyday and he sleeps at our home every night.
When you are scrapping, what are the sounds around you?
Only the sound of the television downstairs, or the talking of my husband when he is sitting next to me on one of our other computers.
What would subject or material would you like to see in a kit from Tangie?
I love all her kits, her style is amazing, so I don’t know… I don’t miss anything in her kits.
What do you sing in the shower, if you do sing (we know you do!)?
First of all, I prefer the bath and let’s say I scrap better than I sing. So no singing from me in the bathroom.
What is your favorite book of all time, and why?
All the Harry Potter books. Why? Because everything is possible in those books.
What do you think when you hear rain start outside?
Let’s stay inside and scrap! Or when I have to go to work: Oh no, I have to wear my rain cloths on my bike!
Where is your dream vacation?
No doubt: Italy    I’m half Italian and I love to visit my family there and there is a lot more to discover for me!
Which is your favorite genre of movies ? (Comedy/ Romance/Suspense/Action/Horror)

I like a mix of romantic action movies. I really enjoyed the new movie The Tourist, but I also like the Harry Potter movies and the good old Grease.
If given a complete freedom to start afresh, what profession would you choose and why?
I would have done a study DTP and would have had a more creative job in stead of bookkeeping what I do now. I started giving digital scrapbooking lessons last year, it’s fun to teach others something creative.

Irene is a very prolific scrapper, she seems to always have a new page ready and up in the gallery.  I watched her last year on the Art Journal Caravan with pure determination, finish the whole Caravan.  That took some fortitude.  I can’t imagine how she does what she does, but her page she did about stretching time must take place in her world.
We welcome Irene for her stay as a VIP, and hope you all enjoy her work too!

The Fifi – there is no other like her.

Her name is Ferryl Kathleen Suzanne Fisher Simonian, aka Fifi and various other deviations of said nickname.  Here is her story:

Anyway, I can tell you two stories about my name and nickname.  My mother named me Ferryl when she heard that name in the hospital when I was born, but I have always delighted in the fact that Ferryl is a homonym for “feral,” a word that means “wild thing” in the dictionary.  Oh, and my husband’s middle name means “fire eyes” in Armenian, which quite amuses me as well!  As for my user name and nickname, Fifi, it comes from a stint in high school where Multi Impaired students were allowed to call me Fifi on Fridays.  We all got a big kick out of it!

What was your favorite subject in school?
English, from Day 1 all the way thru high school until college.  I’ve always been a word queen.  My Junior year English teacher called me verbose!   Then came college and French…stop the world…I became a Francophile!

When you are scrapping what are the sounds around you?
The sounds around me, wow, that could vary wildly!  It depends where I’m scrapping, upstairs or downstairs.  If I’m on the floor level in the Family room and Raffe’s around I hear the record player going (yes, a real live old fashioned 33 1/3 disque record player!) as well as the TV blasting sports or whatever, but sometimes I’m lucky and there’s only one.  If family is around for dinner there’s lots of noise and I have to stop scrapping and actually do dinner, darn them!  If I’m Vincent sitting, I fit a little in while he’s mesmerized by some goofy cartoon show.  I’m a night owl, so there could even be dead silence!

What is your favorite book of all time, and why?
I have always loved Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.  It’s just so delicious, all the elegance and wonderful conversations and comebacks among the characters, you do remember, word queen here!  And, it’s a romance with a happy ending.  In tandem with that the original move starring Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier is a fave too, and Keira Knightly does a fine job in the new version.  Anyway, love it, but wouldn’t want to live then.

Where is your dream vacation?
I love Asian things so I would love to go to China while I can still get around, and Hong Kong.  Would love to see Australia too.  I’ve been lucky to have gone to Japan many years ago, DH has a good record friend who lives in a suburb of Tokyo and sometimes visits here.

Which is your favorite genre of movies?
I like any movie that doesn’t require a lot of concentration, like give me something with a happy ending, make me laugh, there’s enough sadness in the world, I prefer not to see it on the big screen too!

How old are you in your dreams?

Funnily enough I did a page on this.  I like to think of myself as Forever 42, right in the middle of my life with the kids growing up, still fairly young, no terrible crises to deal with, just happily alive. (Of course the sad part is that I was no where near being a scrapper yet!)

What is your favorite layout that you have done with your VIP goodies from Studio Tangie!

Too hard to pick one favorite, but I do love the one with Kira using the She kit

and the one about me using Ink, then and now.  I also love doing the grandkids, especially with the recent goodies!

Do you dance like crazy when no one is looking?
I suppose I should because I am totally uncoordinated when it comes to dancing.  I have always envied people with a good sense of rhythm and style.  Love watching them, no way I can do it myself!  (which is why I love Dancing with the Stars, I admire anyone who can try and puts themselves out there like that!)

Fifi is like a drop of happiness that once released takes the powerful winds of others and touches each person.  I, personally have watched her thru the Art Journal Caravan, and seen her lay her beating heart onto almost every layout.  The trials and tribulations along with the joys and jubilation come thru time and time again.
During the Spring, Scrapbook Graphics (SBG) had a wild and wooly competetion in the chat room.  It was like a game of no other, inpired and created by the one and only hostess Kate. (hey this is about Fifi).  The essence of the challenge was each regular chatter joined up with either a designer or crew CT member from SBG.   This is when I came to know and just love the Fifsters!!  Every week her take on the challenges would put a giggle in everyone! This is by far my favorite she did with Kate:
The left is Fifi’s and you have to know Fifi is a lover of all things French!!

this contest had winners and no losers!! We all won, because the friendship with Fifi was a prize to be cherished.
I close with Fifi and her layout Free to Me!

Sleuth on the OldVWBlues……oh wait to you read this!!!!

I tend to lose myself in these interviews, reading the comments on each ladies pages, looking at pages from long ago to present.  I get nosy and bop around the digiworld and try to learn about these amazing VIPs that have come into Tangie Land and made a wonderful impression.
Today, I have an intriguing little fact about our Vicki aka oldvwblues, that will stun and amaze not only you, but Vicki also!! I ask you to hold on to your excitement of this tidbit until the end of the riveting dialogue about the one, the only, oldvwblues.
How often do you go over the speed limit?
pretty often, but not by much

What was your worst dating experience?  mmm…it’s been so long ago and actually it’s probably better left untold!

How old are you in your dreams?
ageless!

Do you still (or did you ever) paper scrap?
never was a paper scrapper

Do you consider yourself a traveler? Where have you traveled?
wanna be traveler..but this year I did go on a cruise to Alaska and Victoria BC.  Spent a few days in Seattle!  Loved every minute..took tons of photos..and I thank my wonderful daughter to took me on this adventure!

What is your favorite LO you have ever done for Studio Tangie?
skinny-collage or Far From Shore..can’t decide
What do you do when (you think) no one is looking?
eat chocolate

If you were going to be stuck on a deserted island, which 5 books, movies, people and foods would you take along?
all of the Twilight books,  3 books on Art Journaling that I have, ..that’s more than 5..movies..Field of Dreams, Never Ending Story, Twilight New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn…people, my husband who just happens to be my best friend..my grandchildren Kyndal and Gavin and my sister Tina who is the most positive person I know and since I can’t choose between my kids, a total stranger..food would be cheese, chocolate, peanut butter, bread, jelly
If you could go on a road trip with any person (dead or alive) who would you go with and where would you go?
I would go to Sweden with my grandfather.  He immigrated here at 17 and it would be so cool to meet his family over there.  It’s sad to know we have family across the ocean that we will never know.

What is your favorite kit from Studio Tangie, will you show us your LO using that kit? after giving it much thought…once again I cannot choose just one..but I will choose all the Art Journal Caravan parcels. If I must choose just one, it would be parcel 40 and Far From Shore or Parcel 23  A Good Read

How did you get started and how long have you been digiscrapping?
been digiscrapping for about 3 1/2 years.  I saw a magazine and started looking on the internet to learn more about it, got hooked!
What did you get in trouble for the most when you were a kid?
talking all the time
What is your favorite thing about digital scrapbooking?
no mess…endless possibilities..can re-use products over and over!

What were the three happiest moments in your life so far?
birth of my children, seeing them all graduate from college..the birth of my grandchildren.  I could write a paragraph about why I am proud of my kids, but since that’s not one of the questions, I will hush.

Did you have a nickname in middle school or high school?
no…always just Vicki

Which is your wish that is not yet fulfilled?
to be skinny

What was your favorite toy when you were a kid?
bike

If you have to choose a movie title for your life story, what would that be?
Surviving Life in a Dysfunctional Family (not my present family..but when I was growing up) My present title would be Depression..Dealing with it!
How many languages do you speak?
just one, English

If you had to change your name (first or last or both) what would you change it to?
Maybe change my first name to Victoria since a lot of people assume that Vicki is a nickname…and get rid of the middle name all together..what could sound more southern than Vicki Sue!!
I love these answers!  I try to imagine them with a bit of a southern accent to them, that has a musical lift in them. I went through Vicki’s gallery, for over an hour, and put a lot in my favorites.  I would love to show you them all, but then I would be inserting pics and it makes the blog go wonky.  So, I picked out some that were favorites of mine and others that the comments just made my heart soar.
The Art Journal Caravan has really brought Vicki and her work to the limelight.  She chose Calm as her word for the year, and this layout is hilarious and still haunting at the same time:

These next layout, oh my, if you don’t all go ouch, I need a new occupation, Before the Internet:

Okay, I know you are all wondering what tidbit? Well, I think Vicki and I may have been separated at birth?  You see I am old, my first car was a VW and we share the same birthday??? Kinda gives you goose pimples?  No? Golly, I thought it was beyond cool!!  We are digital twins?
So, enjoy your day, and come back next Monday when we find out everything about the Fifsters!

Across the Pond and Friend for so Long

When I first started playing with the people in this world of Digital Scrapping, I stumbled into one of the greatest groups of people, Australian Scrappers!  There was a site a long time ago, called Snap&Scrap.  I giggled and laughed with these ladies, and it wasn’t all Aussie’s, obviously cause this American from California was there, but it was a whole lot of folks living in the future.  (I always kid dear Sharon because they are so far in the time zone from California)
Sharon aka Skyezak, was one of those that was so kind to this very new scrapper.  I remember many pics of her then very little boys and the dog, who was so much a part of the family, I think he had a few layouts of his own. She has touched me as I have followed her love for her boys through some tough times.
Hearing Sharon was going to be one of the elite VIP members for Tangie, put a big smile on my face.
We started with easy questions, Sharon,(her answers are in purple)
What is your name?

Sharon Dale – Sharon was a popular name around the year I was born although Mum was going to call me Julie-Ann up until she saw me then decided on Sharon instead.

What continent do you live on?

Australia, the land Downunder – born and bred in Melbourne, Victoria

Do you dance like crazy, when no one is looking?

I try to but the knees are not as strong as they used to be and gravity isn’t in my favour these days with all those extra spare tyres bouncing around after having 2 kiddos (not a pretty picture really)!!
What is your favorite book of all time, and why?
I always loved The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by CS Lewis as a kid and still love to read it. Now they’ve made a movie out of it, my kids will hopefully read my copy one day. I was always fascinated by the adventure that a whole other world existed inside a wardrobe and would loved to have gone to visit Narnia and experience the magic for myself.
Which is your favorite time of the day, are you a morning person or a night person?
I’ve always been a night person and now being a single Mum with two boys aged 7 and 5, the evening hours are totally mine to do what I want without any kiddos to disturb me. I don’t usually go to bed before midnight most nights and you would not want to see me first thing in the morning! I’m a grumpy bum and take a little while to wake up but with kids in school and kinder, I have to get up early for the next 12 years or so!! Even on the weekends, they’re both up before 7am most days and I don’t get to sleep in anyways.
Which is your favorite genre of movies?
I couldn’t go past a great thriller/suspense movie. I love to be kept wondering and taken on an edge-of-your-seat journey right till the very end. Gone of the days of me rushing out to watch the latest slasher flicks which I loved for years (Friday the 13th, Halloween, Nightmare On Elm Street, Scream)! Being on my own, I don’t need anything to give me the creeps every time I hear a noise in the house.
Do you have any animals?
Sadly, we recently lost our last family pet, our 15 year old ginger cat named Rusty. He was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer and we had to make the decision that was best for him. Only a few months ago, we said goodbye to our faithful pooch Zak who was a 14 year old Golden Retriever as he had major arthritis and two years ago, Zak’s mate Skye went to doggie Heaven after she got spinal arthritis and kidney failure. Having these pets for so many years has left a bit of a hole in our family as I keep waiting for the dogs or the cat to appear at the window or come to greet me when we go outside. They become part of you and are so loyal to you and it’s so hard to say goodbye to them :(
Do you buy cookies or things from kids that knock on your door?
Heck yeah! I’m a sucker for chocolates, lollies, you name it and if it’s helping a good cause, I’m all for it.
What is your favorite layout you have done with your VIP goodies from Studio Tangie?
The Darkness Comes page that I made with Tangie’s Tempest Tossed kit. It had the perfect visual elements to convey how challenging life can be some times and it allowed me to speak directly from the heart about the issues that have come my way during and after a divorce that involved two young kids.

Can we get a snap shot of at where you create?
I’ve always taken over the house with all my scrapbooking supplies as I originally started out as a hands-on paper scrapper over 7 years ago. I also taught classes and ran a small shop out of home, so you can imagine how much stuff I’ve managed to hoard over those years. So within arms reach, you can usually find all sorts of goodies including ribbons, buttons, papers, adhesives, books, photo albums, scrapbook albums, embellishments, paints, stamps, inks, fabric….you name it, I’ve got it and now that I’ve moved back to my parents house with my kids, it’s quite the sight to see how much stuff I’ve managed to fit in around me in such a confined space. It’s taken me months to try and get used to where things are and half the time it takes me quite a while to track down where I’ve put something seeing it’s all moved around in my parents place from how I had things living in my own home.
Think that’s it! You can edit them as you feel necessary as I tend to waffle on some (okay, most) of the time LOL!!

I want desperately to show you Sharon in bunny ears, but I am gonna restrain myself.  You will have to go look yourself!  Sharon and her family are so often the highlight of her pictures, and cruise through her gallery and see the glowing rosy cheeks of her boys and if you wonder where they get them from, just look at this beautiful baby~ This page made me gasp, for the sheer beauty of the layout along with the fact her boys look so much like her and how she looks exactly the same today!
Sharon is a survivor, and this layout to me, especially with the sun coming through behind her, is a real glimpse of her strength and fortitude to keep her family safe and secure.  Bliss by Sky_Zak a mom with her boys, just pure bliss!

Sharon is a scrapper with a heart that she over and over puts on her pages.  It is a pleasure being together with her on a team again!  I am always happy when our trails cross, and I hope you enjoy a bit of Sharon aka Skyezak, skye_zak and my friend.
Keep an eye next Monday for another in depth interview of a fantastic VIP members!!

~Keep the Joy

Meet the VIP team! {Week 1: Herbwashjewel}

A big hello to you all!  Our Tangie had a wild idea a few months ago, how about a VIP Backstage Pass that was available for sale in her store? There were only a few spots open, and they went quick!  The ladies that grabbed those VIP passes have nestled right into the team! Every week, we are going to highlight one, and let you get to know them with us!

First off, is HerbWashJewel, who is indeed a jewel!

Some fun facts:
Birthday: I’m a Bonfire Baby (5th Nov) making me a Scorpio
Favourite Singer: Brian Kennedy (the Irish singer/songwriter)
Favourite Entertainer: John Barrowman
Favourite Doctor Who: David Tennant
A fun interview with herbwashjewel, I hope you enjoy getting to know her as much as I did!

1. Name (any story behind your name)?
The story behind “Herbwashjewel” is that it was based on a random word password I was given on a forum a few years ago and I’ve used as an id for a number of years for consistency, but “a jewel shining through” is more who I am now, to remind me that despite all the things that have happened to me, I am still a jewel, strengthened and polished, not diminished.  It is only recently that I have been able to forgive and move on from my past.  I’m so much more positive now J

2. What continent do you live on?

I live in Europe – Great Britain, living in the Middle of England.  I’ve moved a lot in my lifetime, around 14 times, but have lived here in Stoke-on-Trent for 7 years – not quite a record for me, but one of my longest stays in one place.  Most of my moves were as a child, but it left me with little idea of roots or of where I came from.  Researching my family history has helped, but it’s my hubby and son who keep me rooted now.

4. Do you have any animals? What kind?

We have 2 cats, non-pedigree tortoiseshells, both from cat rescue places.  Molly is 9 and spends most of her time upstairs asleep at the bottom of our bed, and Eris (who was a mum with kittens before we had her at 10 months old) is 4.  They aren’t as affectionate as some of our previous cats, but they tell you that you are loved in their own way.  Eris often follows me around the house most mornings and then she sleeps in our son’s bedroom for the afternoon.  You can tell that they have a hard life with us, can’t you LOL?

7. Do you dance like crazy, when no one is looking?
Yep, I often dance and sing in the car whilst waiting for son’s bus in the morning before the other parents arrive.  Otherwise I’m a dancer on the inside and sometimes sing to myself going round the supermarket but so loud that anyone would notice.

I’m sure it was fine last time I looked *blushes*

10. Do you buy cookies or things from kids that knock on your door?
We don’t get kids knocking doors much round here – just salesmen for double glazing, and no, I don’t need double glazing.

12. What do you think when you hear rain start outside?
It depends on how hard it is raining and whether it’s been raining all week.  We live in an area that supplies the water for the River Trent, so it rains a lot.  Light rain doesn’t bother me and really it’s only liquid sunshine.  One of my favourite things is to go puddle-jumping in my welly-boots J  I love the Billy Connolly quote – “There’s no such things as bad weather, only the wrong clothes”.

14. Where is your dream vacation?
If I could I would always go to Ireland, as it just feels like going home to me.  There really are 50 shades of green there and we have family and friends in Dublin.  My favourite place is Brittas Bay in County Wicklow and I loved Newgrange, County Meath.  I just find it so relaxing a place, except Temple Bar on a Saturday night, which I try to avoid J

15. Can we get a snap shot of at where you create?
I don’t have a crafting room, so I create sitting on the sofa surrounded by boxes of paper, embellishments etc.  I wish I had a craft room, but it means that it is warm and sunny when the weather’s good.  My laptop is often on most days.

17. Which is your favorite time of the day, are you a morning person or a night person?
Definitely a morning person, I love to see sunshine, although I can’t be out in the hot sun for too long.  I enjoy walks in the fresh air, particularly walks with my camera to hand.

19. If given a complete freedom to start afresh, what profession would you choose and why?

I’ve been given this, as I’m on long-time sick leave because of depression and anxiety I first experienced, post-natally.  I was a part-qualified accountant, dealing with insolvencies, but the atmosphere where I worked was the worst and the last time I worked was in 1998.  For years I’ve not really known who I am.  One of the things was to change my name legally to Julie, the name that I’ve always been known by, but not legally because of a birth registration error.  I’ve been officially Julie for just a few years now, but recently I’ve had a bit of a personal revelation.  I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in the Summer and in the New year, I plan to do a Drawing course, followed by a Textiles course and then… who knows?  I’ve started to let go of the most difficult issues of my past and now I look to the moment, rather than backwards as the way to define me.  It’s all still new, exciting, but I have time to work it out now.  I’m working towards greater self-confidence in my skills and abilities.

I actually have been a secret fan of herbwashjewel since the beginning of the Art Journal Caravan this year.  I love her hybrid book, and am in awe of her talent.  Just the cover to her Art Journal is enough to make one just be awed:

Here are a few of my favorite pages:
and this one made me gasp and it really helped me begin to finally get  art journaling!

I have linked all her art pages to her full gallery, I so recommend you go and enjoy this amazing artist and her unique and wonderful work! herbwashjewel, she indeed shines!
