Artsy Blog Hop – Part 1

Hello Everyone!

It’s been awhile since I’ve blogged here on the Studio Tangie blog but so much is changing I thought I’d pop over and say HI! Also, I had a wonderful friend ask me to participate in a blog hop, and I was thrilled–it sounded so fun! So here it goes…I am so honored to participate!

Vicki Robinson is a fabulous artist and I met her while she was taking some of my online workshops. She’s a wonderful artist and designer (she sells her fabulous designs over at the O) and she’s an amazing online friend. I have loved watching her grow as an artist and I’m so happy for her that she is making all her dreams come true. The other day I ran across a quote that reminded me of her, and it inspired me too!

Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement. Golda Mei

I’ve been asked to answer a few questions for this blog hop, so shall I dive right in?

How does your creative process work?
My creative process can go from one extreme spectrum of the scale to the next. A mood, a feeling, a glimpse of a vintage linen, a song, a movie, an old newspaper ad–you name it it’s probably inspired me in some way. I love it so much that I get to do this every single day of my life, I know I’m blessed. I have notebooks and notebooks and notebooks of ideas that I haven’t gotten to yet, but getting the idea is half the fun sometimes! Once I decide to put an idea into use I will usually sketch it out, make a sequential list of “to do’s” to help me accomplish it and dive right in.

How does your work differ from others of its genre?
Oh boy–how do I answer this one? As far as my digital work goes, the very truth of the matter is that I try not to look at anyone else’s work. I really don’t want to be influenced by it at all. I work on what I love, what I see trending on Instagram, at Anthropologie, what I love in pop culture. I find what I love and I work on it. I rarely worry about wondering if it will “sell”, I feel like if it comes from my heart it was worth the effort and then move unto the next project. I’m not sure that makes me different, I assume most artists are very much the same in these ways.

As for my mixed-media work, it’s a mess. So I may differ in that for me it’s ALWAYS about the process and not the end result. I never set out to make my art journals pretty or “finished” they just are. I love it, and it was a VERY HARD ROAD to finally be comfortable on.

What are you working on now?
Right now I’m working on a huge abstract sea life painting. I’ve been trying to be braver about sharing the process of this painting on Instagram. It’s hard for me because where you start and where it ends with this style of painting are so different that it’s hard to see where it’s going. I’ve enjoyed it though. Some of my other projects are my Sunday watercolor journal, my art journals and my love for making collage sheets.

I’m also working 80+ hours a week at the moment getting ready to open my own brand new digital store, since I’m closing my studio at scrapbookgraphics after six years (everything is 50% off over there right now)! I am SO EXCITED about the future and I’m just giddy about the opportunities that lie ahead, including new workshops, new subscriptions…just, new everything. Sometimes a big change is the best thing that can ever happen to you!

Why do you do what you do?
Because I LOVE IT and it just become part of who I am. For me it’s as simple as that :). I love teaching, I love creating, I love creative problem solving.

You got to the end! Hooray! One week from today, I will post the names of 1-3 other artists’ blogs to continue this hop, so PLEASE check back then!
